Chanda's (Swara Bhaskar) only dream in life is to see her daughter Apu (Ria Shukla) rise. She is a maid who has big dreams for her child. But Apu is a teenager who cannot fathom her mother's sacrifices. Chanda gets herself enrolled in Apu's class and in no time, she is everybody's favourite. Nil Battey Sannata mines the life of Chanda (Swara Bhaskar), a single mother who does menial jobs all day just in order to give her teenaged daughter Apeksha (Riya Shukla) the education that might help her break the shackles of poverty and privation.
In this battle of attrition between a strong-willed mother and an adamant daughter, math serves as an apt metaphor for the challenges that the duo is up against as they struggle to weave their way out of their misery.
It is a film which would bring tears to your eyes, but will also leave you with a smile on your face.
