It is the rebel in me that comes out during my performance : Esha Gupta

Tell us something about your character in this film?

My character’s name is Priti Makhija who is Vikram Makhija’s sister. Vikram is the one who has been murdered. It is very rare in Indian cinema when a mainstream heroine is offered a negative role. The casting director called me and said we want you to play this super glamorous yet negative character. That is the beauty of it. I idolize Priti for her courage. After seeing Rustom, if people say I can act, I am more than happy.

What do you love most about a negative character?

I think it is more challenging to do and I like challenges. You know you are doing a role that people are going to hate. I love that. It is the rebel in me that comes out during my performance. She is this super rich lady who has lot of cars and jewels. With red lips and red nails I looked like a legend in this film.

When are you going to romance Akshay Kumar on-screen? I am just waiting for it. After I saw Namastey London, I really felt sad when Katrina was rude to him. Now I am breaking his heart in Rustom. I hate Ileana for that. I seriously think Akshay and I look good together. Just waiting for some one to cast us.

How difficult was it to play your character? I am like that in real life. If someone is cheating on me, I will never forgive. You fool me once, shame on you and you fool me twice, shame on me. It is something I am born with. I come from a defence background so naturally my personality is strong.

Why was it Ileana opposite Akshay and not you?

It was the casting director and director’s call. But in this film I can definitely say that I have done full justice to Priti. I know I can look really strong rather than really weak. There lies the real talent of casting directors. They pick out the best according to the need. I don’t think anybody else could have played this character as good as Ileana.

How are both the characters different in the film?

In the film, Priti is much more stronger because it doesn’t matter what people think or if it is right or wrong. She just wants justice for her brother who has been murdered and is ready to do just about anything for that. But the love of audience will go to Cynthia.

How tough was it to work with Akshay Kumar?

It was not tough at all. His whole personality is intimidating because of his height and looks. He come and wishes every single person on the sets. If you are not a morning person, then you are screwed. I learnt a lot from him.

One actor you want to work with?

Ranveer Singh. He is a great actor and his energy is just on a different level altogether. I also like Rajkummar Rao a lot.
